a bush block in the adelaide hills…LUXURY LIVING

A grand building on many scales with an eye for detail, an appetite for scale and a finish next to none.

The primary focus of this project was the stunning bush site and and its views over the Adelaide Hills to the sea.

Form and materiality were largely a response to the buildings need to perform in extreme conditions. The exposed site receives the worst of wind and rain and is in an extreme bushfire zone.  The building consists of two main structural systems, a primary in concrete and a secondary in steel. The first offering fire protection and a solid grounding into the earth, the second facilitating the need for the skins of the building to be operable. This flexibility allows for shutting down in the event of fire and bad weather or opening up to take advantage of natural ventilation. This building is completely immersed in its environment offering framed views of the bush, sea and sky.
